Little Paxton Flood May 2012

Posted on 4th May 2012 in flood

I have just walked down to the weir at Little Paxton to see the flood for myself having had to take a major diversion to get to work this morning!

Incredibly, some drivers were moving the police barricades and attempting to drive through the water!

It’s meant to rain quite hard overnight, I’m really not sure what will happen if more water tries to go through the weir; it looks fit to burst!

Flood! #TheGallery

My post for week 69 of The Gallery: water.

My immediate thought when I saw the prompt was of the time when lower castle park in Colchester flooded. I lived just off the park at the time and found the rising water both fascinating and terrifying at the same time!

As you can see in the picture below, even though the rain had long since stopped the flood water was very aggressive.

These ducks are swimming on the prized cricket ground!

Miraculously the water vanished as quickly as it had arrived, but it did give me a brief insight into how terrifying and unstopable flood waters are.
