Blog of Substance Award

Posted on 12th July 2010 in Blog/ meme/ Twitter

The lovely, kind and generous Garry @himupnorth has awarded me the Blog of Substance Award. Now he did create a new rugged, manly badge for the this meme however being as I am a girl, I am sticking with the girly one as above!

THE RULES:

1) Give groveling gratitude filled thanks to the blogger who awarded you

2) Share your five word blogging philosophy

3) Nominate further bloggers of substance

Until this moment I hadn’t really considered that I had a ‘blogging philosophy’ however I shall now attempt to come up with one in just 5 words. This is difficult for me, I tend to prefer to use as many words as possible, but here goes:

WORDS   FELL   OUT   MY   HEAD

RANDOM   THINGS   THAT   I   THINK

HONESTY   AND   INTEGRITY   RULE   OK

TELL   IT   LIKE   IT   IS

You may have noticed that was just a smidge over 5 words…..but if I had to pick a lone 5, then I would pick the last 5 – TELL  IT  LIKE  IT  IS.  Although to be fair I think the top one is probably more accurate ;o)

Now I need to pass the award onto others. I personally think that everyone who takes the time to sit write a blog deserves a Blog of Substance award, as such if I have ever visited and commented upon your blog, it’s fairly safe to say I think yours is a blog of substance. However, in order to play the game,  some people for me to pass The Blog of Substance Award onto:

First and foremost was going to be @Metajugglamum but I see that Garry already tagged her (damn you Garry) so instead I move to:

@SingleMummyUK

@becaboop

@NudiePrincess

@TheJellyMonster

and
@elainescott77

Ladies, I pass the Blog of Substance award on to you, well deserved in every case.

10th Secret Post Club

Arrived today and what a lovely surprise all the way from the US of A!

As you can see it contains a bag stuffed full of ‘bold’ starbucks coffee (which is brewing in my cafetier as we speak) a bag of traditional ‘fall’ sweets and a beautiful hand-made book mark – along with a lovely note from the sender! Thank you @moneypenny_usa for  my lovely gift x

9th Secret Post Club

I didn’t receive anything, boo! And the person I sent to didn’t acknowledge receipt of theirs either :(

8th Secret Post Club

Not sure what happened to the 7th, I forgot to blog it! Sorry.

But the 8th arrived today:

I’m so excited by the notebook. I’ll probably never write in it because it’s new, and perfect and lovely and therefore anything I write in it will sully it….however I will keep it and love it! The book mark is brilliant and is already tucked into the book that I’m reading – you can’t beat an evil penguin!

It was accompanied by a lovely little note, well it looked lovely until I read the back and realised it was made from recycled sheep poo!

Many, many thanks to Charlotte for my lovely gift.

And to Heather for creating the Secret Post Club :)

6th Secret Post Club

I got my secret post club parcel really early this month! What a lovely surprise :)

What’s extra lovely is that the book was bought in America (I think) it has that lovely rough cut feel to the pages that I simply adore.

I love this gift, cherish books as a rule anyway and I’m really looking forward to reading this one (with it’s lovely rough uncut pages…..) – I never buy magazines so it will be a real indulgence when I settle down with this one and my LARGE bar of chocolate!

BIG thanks to www.mumof4.wordpress.com for my lovely gift.

BIG thanks to @notefromlapland for the Secret Post Club.

5th Secret Post Club

I was getting a little petulently put this as October ticked on by and I didn’t receive my secret post club parcel – so it was extra lovely to come home on Friday to find not one, but two lovely slices of @thecakenest chocolate cake waiting for me!

Thank you @arcticmummy

xxxxx

4th Secret Post Club!

A HUGE thank you to @carolinemathews for my 4th secret post club parcel – packed to the brim with loveliness! A cutesy notepad, a gorgeous cupcake note, a KitKat dark (which is now in the fridge for later!), a girly sparkly headband and a FAB Olay Total effects radiance enchancing cream wash!

I feel spoiled rotten today – this is like a little birthday!

Thank you Caroline and thank you @notefromlapland for the #secretpostclub

3rd Secret Post Club

Huge thanks today to ‘Laura’ for my secret post club parcel.

I got 2 packages in the post today – the 1st filled the room the the aroma of fresh coffee as soon as I opened it! It was wonderful and it contained a beautifully quilled (I think that is what it is called, although I may need to look that up…) card which said that this was part 1 of my secret post club gift and that I needed to fill the kettle, make the coffee and enjoy it with part 2….

Fortunately, part 2 was delivered at the same time (well done royal mail!) so I got to enjoy my lovely coffee with a slice of @thecakenest gorgeous double chocolate cake!

Life rocks.

Thank you Laura – although you didn’t include your twitter name so I don’t know who you are to say thank you properly :(

And big thanks to Heather for the Secret Post Club.

2nd Secret Post Club

It was my son’s 9th birthday yesterday so when a brown box was delivered I assumed it was for him….. but no, MY name was on the top! Childish excitement then ensued as I sat down to open the box – inside I found:

First thing I noticed was the lovely smell! Which was confusing to start with as the first thing I found was a box of 3 different types of coffee (I can’t wait to try these in my cafetiere!), then I found an envelope with a note to me enclosed from the lovely @elainescott77 of elainescott77.blogspot.com who sent my parcel. Further down in some bubble wrap was a massive cat cup and saucer and then finally towards the bottom I found the source of the lovely smell…. not illict drugs as it looks in the photo but a packet of delicious smelling bath fizz!

Thank you @elainescott77 and thank you @notefromlapland for creating the secret post club!

ps I would love to add a secret post club badge to my wordpress blog – does anyone have the code?

It was with a ridiculous amount of excitement that I received my first Secret Post Club parcel!

I literally ripped it open to find:

A tin of mints in a lovely art deco case, a gorgeous little heart shaped sign saying ‘sunshine follows the rain’, a sweet little note pad, some chocolate and a tiny silver globe with a note saying ‘the little world is for you to keep in your pocket so that you remember the world is yours you just have to believe’ how cute is that!

Heartfelt thanks to Sara for my gift and note – I really appreciate it!

And heartfelt thanks to Heather @notefromlapland for the whole Secret Post Club!

Damn and tarnation, I have been tagged by @himupnorth to do a photo version of the 7 things meme. Actually, sorry – the rules say you have to THANK the person who passes the Kreativ Blogger award on to you, so, ahem, thank you @himupnorth for passing this to me… To try do this justice, I am for once going to attempt to use as few words as possible and let the images do the talking….

Picture 1.

I was quite a cute baby…

Picture 2.

But my mum was cuter!

Picture 3.

I have 2 boys. My DH has 2 boys. The picture below is from a day out at Bewilderwood in Norfolk – we built the den that they are sitting in. And yes, I may have buggered about with the pic in photoshop just a little!

Picture 4.

My grandparents 1932.

Picture 5.

My job – I make this.

Picture 6.

I have lots of amazing pics from New York, and couldn’t decide which was the most iconic – the Empire State? The Algonquin cat? Central Park? The Chrysler building? The Statue of Liberty? In the end I settled on something that surprised me – a black squirrel!

Picture 7.

Last but not least – 3rd April 2009.

And so, to pass the Kreativ Blogger – photo version – 7 things meme onto 5 others…

1 – @1chicmama

2 – @Jon_Stead

3 – @Metajugglamum

4 – @christinemosler

5 – @supersinglemum

So guys – I pass the Kreativ Blogger award on to you – have fun!

S is for… 7 Things You Don’t Know About Me

Posted on 9th April 2010 in Art/ cats/ Cattery/ Feral/ Kreativ Blogger/ Twitter

7 things you don’t know about me…….

Day 2 in my blogging life and I have been tagged by @himupnorth

A thing called Kreativ Blogger – good, no pressure then.

Ok, so I’ll cut the crap and the intros and get straight to the SEVEN THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME

1) When I was a child I wanted to either be an author or own a cattery.

2) I ensnared met my husband online. Myself and 3 friends all did internet dating. It was brilliant! Once we worked out how to weed out the weirdos (there were a fair few) it soon became obviously that most people were very genuine. I will probably make this the subject for ‘I is for….’ if I ever get around to it. Of the 4 of us, 3 of us are still with people we met online. NB: My husband didn’t meet my sons for 6 months, the children always did and always will come first.

3) Tenuous claims to fame….

– When I was about 3 I hit Christopher Biggins in the face! My grandfather was (among other things) a theatrical agent and he arranged for us to see Mother Goose and then go backstage and meet the cast. The character played by Christopher Biggins had been mean to another character who was played by an old lady and my 3 year old self felt this was wrong.
– My dad used to live in a flat above Jordan and ‘Ace The Gladiator’.
– I used to go out with a famous political correspondents son – allegedly.
– About a year before he hit the big time Dermot O’Leary used to come in and lay across my desk to show me holiday photos and generally rummage through my drawers! He used to bemoan his lack of success with women and his dreams of being famous. He taught us all the Macerena in the middle of the banking hall one day….. I know it is a cliché but it was obvious that he had IT and would be something special. Love you Dermie.
– I went to school with the boys who wrote ‘Eat My Goal’
– I went to school with Nihal from Radio 1
– My cousin went to school with Damon from Blur
I’ll stop now, it is along and increasingly tenuous list!

4) I have an underactive thyroid. Not the most glamorous of illnesses that one and nobody ever knows what it is. It was diagnosed fortunately by an attentive GP when I was about 18 – at that time it was overactive but had literally just burnt out. I much prefer the symptoms of it being overactive – at that time I was just under 8 stone, swam, jogged, did aerobics ate cake for breakfast (normally M&S walnut layer or cherry madeira), m&ms (peanut) for lunch and whatever I fancied for tea!

5) My mum brought round my old year 5 school report a couple of weeks ago, the nicest comment in it was from my Art teacher who (bless him) said ‘Lisa is a talented artist’. He was an entertaining teacher, always stank of booze and often nipped into the ‘supply cupboard’ during lessons for 20 mins or so. He was incredibly talented, while I would sit there cocking up the perspective on something and he would just lean over and in 2 strokes of a well worn pencil he would leave a perfect sketch on the paper. He was certainly wasted at our school, guess it’s no wonder he drank so much. It was known throughout school that he had an evil temper and it was rumoured that he once dangled a boy out of the window (10 floors up) for back chatting. Looking back I guess I am lucky that he thought I could draw!

6) If I won the lottery I would buy certain local Cat Rescue who are well known for only rehoming dying poorly cats. They have a ‘feral pen’ there which makes me sad. I have tamed (to varying degrees of success) a few feral cats and personally think that a fair few of the cats in the feral pen could be tamed and rehabilitated.

7) I regret not getting to know my grandparents better when they were alive. My grandfather left behind some typed memoirs which are fascinating but have left me with so many questions to which I will now never know the answer – if you still have your grandparents, ask away while you can.

Finding 7 people to pass this on to has been really hard, as I am new to all this I don’t know who has already done it and if it is a big blog faux pas to tag someone who already has? No bugger volunteered so I had to choose, fingers crossed!

My 7 people are:

1. @Sharonkitten
2. @redmummy
3. @blottedcopybook
4. @SingleDadsDiary He will kill me for this! :o)
5. @Hedgewytch
6. @christinemosler
7. @babydinesout
