The Colour Red #thegallery

Yet again I seem to be slightly abusing (cheating) the blog prompt – Sorry AGAIN Tara – but a conversation I had with someone today seemed to me to be worthy of a mention.

Unlike this person, I’m not usually allowed to give blood. There are a list of exclusions. The first time I tried, believe it or not, I was refused for not weighing enough. Anyone who knows me now will find that reasonably astounding I am sure, but it’s true! Now
they aren’t too keen because of my thyroid condition, although once it is stable again they might let me apparently.

However, the person I spoke to today was on their way to give blood and they casually mentioned that had done it over 30 times. Which I think is pretty cool. Wonder if there is some kind of award for that, maybe one of those ‘I gave blood bug things’ you know the ones
little fuzzy round things that stick on. Anyway. I think giving blood is a pretty amazing and selfless thing to do, giving blood more than 30 times – got to be heroic surely?

So, this is a prompt, for each and every one of you who is eligible to click here find your nearest donation site and register to give blood TODAY.

Go on, it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy, honest.

Once you’ve done that, why not pop over to The Gallery at Sticky Fingers to see the other entries?

It’s one of those things I have always been meaning to do and have never got round to doing. Thanks for the prompt :)

They give out little badges when you reach certain milestones – numbers of donations and years donated :)

I can’t give at the moment but will start again as soon as I’m healthy! And if anyone is type O-neg, they are desperate at the moment, so please consider!

I can’t for a few health reasons, but my OH got his special badge thing for giving loads. He can’t either now though. No wonder they are going short. I will give my 19 year old a prod..

My Dad has certificates for being a Plasma donor when they were living in the UK … you can’t do that until you have donated normal blood x zillion amounts of times so we were all pretty proud of that. I gave blood regularly when in the UK but seethe every time anyone mentions it now as I am not allowed to donate in Germany. Why not?? …. wait for it … because I was living in the UK in the 80s when BSE broke out. The fact that I was vegetarian for 8 of the 10 years is water off a duck’s back to them. I am potentially a killer carrier.
I have had the conversation with so many people but here the law is law and that’s law. End of. The fact that I have spent time in India and Africa is irrelevant, but UK in the 80s? Ooof, no they don’t want blood from me, I could kill people. Rant over *steps down off soap box* !
Maybe someone who has never donated before would like to fill my place?? Would be tremendous….

I’ve been lucky never to need blood and, of late at least, too busy being pregnant to be able to donate. I think it’s time I manned up, just in case.
