Fleas, fleas and more fleas!
Help!
My sweet little, butter-wouldn’t-melt, Maisy cat has got fleas.
Before you say it, yes I do treat her with Frontline. I do it every 5 weeks and yet it just doesn’t seem to be doing the job and the poor girl is constantly washing and scratching.
Bizarrely, my other cat, Elvis, doesn’t seem to be similarly afflicted.
I had coffee with a friend today who said that she is also finding the Frontline isn’t keeping the fleas away.
Which made me wonder – is anyone else finding this, and if so have you found a different treatment that works?
Help me get Maisy flea-free!
Have you actually seen the fleas? It sounds like she might not have fleas, but is allergic to them! One of my cats rarely has fleas, but can often be found scratching and nibbling herself and my vet said that it was a flea allergy and that she didn’t have them. I too frontline them every month or so, and I have noticed it is worse when I have seen foxes in the garden.
Oh yes, I combed her last night and she is a proper flea bag! Have just got back from the vets, they given me Advocate for her. Didn’t seem remotely surprised that I thought the frontline wasn’t working.
How odd that Frontline isn’t working so good these days! Hope the new stuff sorts her out and stops the scratching.
Hi, fortunately our cats benefit from frontline. However it might not be the frontline that’s inactive, for every flea you find on your puss, there are 30 more in the carpet, furniture etc. Along with the cat’s you have to treat the surrounding area where your cats use most, cat bed, carpets, furniture, bed etc. failing all that, your cat might be home to a different type of flea, maybe some advice from the vet might help. Hope you sort the problem out!
*shudder* I just got back from the vet and have bought a house spray called RIP (lol), although I haven’t seen a single flea anywhere other than on Maisy The Fleabag! Fortunately only have carpet on the stairs and landing and have leather sofas but will be spraying EVERYWHERE just in case!
Yes, they will live in the creases in the leather sofa, little swines they are. Hope it works.
Am going to have to burn the house down at this rate! Lol, I will spray every inch of the place. Be afraid little hoppy creatures, be very afraid!
Sorry to be a bore, but this is rather my area of expertise…I am a qualified Vet Nurse. Frontline has long been known to have a resistance, at the vets we used to use the spray every two weeks, to keep on top of things. You will also need to treat your house regularly. Finally I would consider switching to Stronghold, whish is by far a superior product.
Darn, wish I’d spoken to you first. The vet gave me something called Advocate, and a house spray called RIP, are they any good?
The spray will do the trick, just keep the room well ventilated when you do it.
